You can walk away, but you ought to actually study the data. But maybe that would be a threat to your worldview.

Personally, I strive to live in the factosphere. It's more work, having to study everything, take context into account, and get past the talking points. It's convenient when you get confused about something - you can just look it up instead of wondering or forcing it to fit a narrative or ideology. But it's like math class, you have to show your work.
