As a classical musician and music teacher, I've always had gay friends and students, whether I was aware of it or not. It's one of various reasons I can never be a Republican - "Hey, man, I know we play together, but you're gay so I think you're an abomination."

But even if being gay were a choice, I think we should give them all the respect in the world. What kind of courage does it take to get up in the morning, look in the mirror, and say "OK, here's another day of choosing to be second class citizen"?
