As far as Trojan horses go, just about everything they do is — Their number one strategy for winning political arguments is a constant widening of the Overton Window. People laugh at or ignore the crazies, but it’s that constant pushing right that mainstreams arguments that would be too conservative otherwise. “Don’t say gay” is a classic case: everybody on the left said passing a less restrictive law that applied only to elementary students would expand to include a wide variety of topics for the whole school system, and that’s exactly what happened.

Yesterday’s lunacy is today’s talking point and becomes tomorrow’s legislation.
