As for the "then there will never be a time", that is contingent in the parties not being different enough to disfavor your preferred of the two by voting third party. I'd argue that might have been true (if you weren't paying close attention) until 2000, but not now. As of 2025 it may be true again, since the Fascist Theocrats will either implode or there will be no democracy to save and it won't matter what party you vote for since the ruling junta will discount it anyway.
