Back before social media, crazy people and deplorables were isolated and rightly shunned because they don't actually represent a large fraction of the population. Now they can get together and talk to each other, and it both brings out the worst in them and spreads their bullshit far and wide.

There have always been terrible people in the world, it's just that the modern age has inflated their influence and deepened their terribleness.
