Between the two we had one with inflammatory bowel disease, four cancer surgeries (lesson learned: when your dog has cancer, go straight to the surgical oncologist and don't let your primary vet talk you into letting her have a go), a course of radiation treatments, a tumor removal and ruptured intestine at the same time, and a laryngeal tie-back. Maybe $50K for the lot, insurance paid most of it. But the premiums got so high as they got older that we might have been better off dropping it for the last few years. Hard to know that in advance, though.
