Identity politics is woke if liberals do it - such as criticism for lack or representation- but not when conservatives do it, such as criticizing what they see as excessive diversity. Censorship can fall under woke, but again, only if liberals do it. Ditto for antisemitism, challenging books in libraries, and product boycotts.
And what qualifies as ridiculous or extreme? For example, racism exists, but where's the border between legitimate concerns and "extreme"? Putting Bibles in classrooms is OK, but criticizing Christianity is not?
The original meaning was basically "politically aware."
DeSantis defined it as "the belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them." The existence of systemic injustices is flagrantly obvious. So what did he mean?
When used by conservatives, it appears to mean "anything we don't like" - just like Communism, Socialism, DEI, CRT, "open borders," and a host of others.
