Congratulations on having good-quality friends! But proof by anecdote is no proof at all. What any one of us knows isn’t an adequate sample. Whatever the truth may be, we can’t find it without looking outside our own bubble. As I say early on, it isn’t everyone. But whether you know any or not, the Christian Nationalists are out there.

However, I strongly encourage you not to take my word on any of it. One thing I’ve learned on Medium is to never just take anybody’s word on something.

I have no interest in attacking anyone for their faith, because in order to do that, I would have to give a flying **** about their faith. If I could wave a magic wand and be set free from everyone else’s religion, I’d be doing it right now.

But I’ve had to live in a country awash in oppressive Christianity my whole life. All I care about religion is to be left alone…but it won’t leave me alone.

I get it, you don’t want any of this to be true. But I don’t want it to be true, either. The hardest part about seeking knowledge is finding out things you don’t want to know. So you can just piss on me, or you can be courageous and go discover the uncomfortable reality. Up to you.
