Conservative Christians in the 21st century are trying to "cancel" Jefferson for saying "separation of church and state."
I am less worried than many. On the one hand we're seeing a new wave of intolerance, on the other hand it's being largely led by people (racial/religious/gender minorities, tc.) who have not had freedom of expression. In other words, the wealthy, straight, White, Christian and male Americans - who have had everything their way for a long time now - are being sanctioned and they don't like it.
Basically the pendulum has swung, and as pendulums do it may be too far. The less powerful are feeling emboldened, is it a surprise they might over do?
I'm concerned how many people feeling their first dose of "oppression" are so eager to go back to when they made all the decisions. No side is actually calling for equality.
