I can only speak to the US, I don't know what you guys have going on up in Canadia.

Down here we have two political parties: the Republicans are the most conservative major party in the developed world, both economically and socially. In one of the most diverse countries in the world, our political right is almost exclusively white and almost exclusively Christian. The left is basically everyone else, a mixed bag of competing interests who can't get their act together even on a good day. Referring to an "organized left" is laughable.

So of course, when our right says "freedom," they really only mean freedom for their people - straight white Christians, preferably male and/or wealthy. If you're any other race, religion, gender preference, etc. they have zero interest in your freedom of anything.
