Obviously I can’t speak for Black people, so I won’t try. For me, one issue is religion. The Democrats are too Christian for me, but at least they aren’t actively trying to stomp me out the way the Republicans are.

The Democrats definitely don’t do all they could for Black people, but at least they aren’t actively opposed. The Ds do make some efforts toward inclusion and diversity, and a lot more so than they used to. African-Americans chose the last two Democratic presidential nominees, for instance.

But like I said, I can’t speak for you. I don’t have a visceral understanding of Black lives or how the various parties treat them. I do know that the GOP is riddled up and down with racists and people who have no problem with a racist status quo. Every piece of civil rights legislation on the books was passed by Democrats over the dead bodies of Republicans.

For me, I go by the rule that the lesser of two evils is less evil, but maybe that’s not enough. People keep telling Black folks to be patient and that things are getting better, but I wouldn’t blame anybody who was sick of waiting.

Getting to something that’s at least close to equality doesn’t seem that hard, how shitty are Whites that we can’t make it happen?
