On the one hand, I think if you look up you'll see the point flying by overhead. It's intended to be a parody.

In particular it is a parody of the Bible literalist who are currently trying to run the country. I'm saying if you read the Bible word for word, literally with no interpretation or additional explanation, it's stupid as stupid can be. Now, I understand that it can't really be understood without all the history and context and interpretation and explanation…

Which is kind of the point.

The Speaker of the House said that if I wanted to know what he thought on a subject, all I had to do was pull out a Bible and read it. But if that's the case, what the hell am I supposed to make of it?

He's claiming it's literally true, but if I try to call him out on something, it'll turn out that he like everyone else is actually a cafeteria Christian, explaining or explaining away the bits that he doesn't like.

But it either means what it says word for word or it doesn't. If it does, then every type of logic, reason, and science has no meaning. If it doesn't, and you need all that context and history and interpretation to understand it, then it's useless as a guiding principle for the government because everyone has their own quirks of interpretation.

So, the point is that it's a parody of literalists and the absurdity of their literal interpretation.

As for Islam, they're not trying to run my life. They don't even want to. If they ever do, a decision will have to be made on how to respond.
