One of things that drove me crazy as a math teacher:

1. Math is an important aspect of science and helps people learn to think logically.

2. People should learn math.

2. Let's make math a graduation requirement.

3. Kids are struggling with math and not graduating, so we either have to be strict and make sure they learn it, or just make it easier so they can graduate.

4. Parents are freaking out because their kids are struggling, so we'll dumb it down.
