Our tribe has always been fragmented. In a sense, we are actually less so - sometimes things have to get worse before they can get better. The tribes that are used to ruling without dissent - the rich, Whites, Christians, men - are being challenged.

A Black Lives Matter protest isn't a sign of regression in matters of race. It means Black people are saying out loud what they used to keep quiet. For the first time they have started believing in the American Dream - they don't have their part of it, but at least they've reached the point they feel it's safe to ask for it.
