People prefer black-and-white answers. Some people appear to demand them. But science and nature and the world are nothing but shades of gray.

I think that’s why conservatives and religious types — who build their worldview and identity on life being a series of on/off switches — get so hysterical. Their brains, their God, and their “common sense” are all screaming for a binary world they can’t have.

Which would be fine, as long as they kept it to themselves. Unfortunately…
