More recent school “voucher” programs were explicitly designed to kill off public education, and the creators were not shy about it. they can weaken the educational system, pander to their anti intellectual base, funnel money to religious schools, crush the teacher unions, and help people who want to segregate society.

More controversially, charter schools are - well-intentioned or not - more of the same. Neither has any hope of improving overall education.
