That was always my one hope for the Mango Man, that he’d be so horrible as to shock us into sense. That it hasn’t worked yet is a source of worry and loss of faith in my fellow Americans. As a nation we’re growing up so slowly in a difficult world. I’m basically a misanthrope at heart, but modern conservatism has managed to shock even me.
