That’s the problem, I think. The right have basically become toddlers, all id and screaming. I don’t have kids, but I’ve seen what happens when little ones reach that age, not upsetting them becomes job 1 for the family. But then they learn if you have no conscience or shame you can win just by being obnoxious enough.

Add to that the human tendency to turn rightward under stress, and it means they “win the tie”. The left has to win outright, the right has figured out that if they just make everything shitty enough they can win that way. I’m tired of people asking why the GOP seems content to let people die of COVID, threaten the debt ceiling, and all their other seemingly self-destructive behaviors. Of course they do it, if government is dysfunctional people vote their way even when it’s their fault.

Now the Overton Window is wider than the side of a barn, they can pretty much burn the joint to the ground without being held responsible. It’s shortsighted, dangerous, and (though I hesitate to use the word) kinda evil. People dying? Lives made miserable? Who cares? They have God, a zombie army, and most of the big money interests in their pockets (or vice versa), why not just cling to power at all costs? Sure, a government run by nihilists, what could go wrong?
