The idea of partnering with a Republican is horrifying.

Three quick examples:

I’m not a Christian, they’ve merged with white Evangelicalism. There’s no place for me. (Check out the backdrops at the RNC, even when non-Christians are speaking.)

I’m a scientist by nature and training. My opinions go where the facts lead. Again, there’s no place for me in the GOP.

I’m a musician with gay friends and colleagues. I couldn’t have a wife who thinks they’re second-class citizens (or worse, see Evangelical comment above).

The data is no surprise, given that the Republican Party has become so wedded to being a narrow slice of America. In a diverse country rapidly becoming more so, they are overwhelmingly rural-centric, politically conservative straight white Christians.

Meanwhile, the Democrats are an unwieldy mass of everything else. No matter what race, religion, sexual orientation, political preference, or anything else you’re looking for, there’s probably a Democrat who fits the bill.

If I had a child, why would I want them to marry into a party that is opposed to me and everything I stand for? That would be crazy.
