The point of protest isn't just to fight the government, for heaven's sake. Young and Mitchell are doing what they have always done - using their music to fight for what they believe in.

The reason conservatives don't make intellectually honest arguments is that they don't actually care. The right has hated them for 50 years because they are challenging to whatever is the right wing orthodoxy of the time. This isn't the latest reason, just the latest rationale.
