They say the cruelty is the point, but I'm not sure. On the other hand, there's the Lee Atwater quote about how the GOP base will hurt themselves as long as it hurts Black people more.

Another possibility is that they're so embedded in religion and groupthink they're chasing the car with no idea what to do when they catch it.

All I know is I don't get it.
