This is where "Defund the Police" was a disappointment. Great idea, terrible name. Logic says you set up the system to meet the number of qualified officers, not the opposite. Spend the money on people who actually know how to help in specific situations - social workers, addiction specialists, conflict negotiators, etc.

For most situations police find themselves in, a gun and nightstick are the worst tools.
