True — sort of.

For example, our politics is very they. We have two parties, and the only thing that matters to how the country is run is which holds the majority. When you step into the voting booth, you might as well erase the names. No matter who your Representative or Senator is, in 2020 you voted for Pelosi/Schumer/Biden/ a SCOTUS of Democratic appointees, or McCarthy/McConnell/Trump/the current court. Full stop.

That also determines national policy. You voted for an expansion of abortion and gay rights, or a contraction. Again, full stop, give or take the SCOTUS comment above. Addressing climate change or not. On and on.

On the other hand, there are groupings that matter. For instance, in a recent poll, 44% of Republicans want to set the Bible above the popular will. That’s a big deal with seismic consequences.

Of course not all of any group agree on everything. However, many share enough. You’ll note that at the top I specified “right-wing nut.” The former president, Reps. Boebert, Greene, Gosar, Gaetz, et al. are horrible people aside from their politics. TV preachers thundering that “gays deserve the death penalty.” The crowd at MAGA rallies, or at CPAC cheering Viktor Orbán.

I think you know the sort.

But if the shoe doesn’t fit, don’t put it on — just be very honest with yourself before deciding if it’s your size.
