Two things:

The "first few paragraphs" aren't even controversial. The first section lays out the motivation for the piece and states my thesis. The second section is a statement of history, as is most of the rest. You can disagree with parts of it, but the beginning is just set up.

The second is frustration with why internet makes even smart people stupid.

Why does even the slightest critique of capitalism always — ALWAYS — lead to someone claiming I'm a Communist? There has never been a functioning economy based on pure capitalism, full stop. It's a gray world, there is no black and white. It's always a mix, capitalism for innovation and economic activity, plus a dose of socialism to keep it in check and not burn everything down. Why do (particularly right-leaning) people think life is a series of on/off switches? It's like a music studio analog mixing board - sliders and dials, a little of this, a little of that.

P.S. "totalitarianism" isn't an economic theory. Why do people who lecture me on economics always make that mistake? Democracy, authoritarianism, et. al. can have various economies. (The American right and GOP are currently in love with authoritarian crony capitalists like Putin, Orbán, and certain orange shitgibbon.)

Thus I can't speak to anything beyond the second paragraph since it's based on an incorrect assumption.

P.P.S. Being a pompous poser is bog-standard internet bullshit, but it's unattractive and uninteresting to me.
